Abstract

The case for changing our present environmentally detrimental industrial system to one that is more ecologically benign can be argued on economic as well as ecological and social grounds. The contemporary practice of measuring Gross National Product (GNP) as an indicator of national well-being entirely conceals the fact that current business practices are not only ecologically and socially destructive, but actually increasingly counterproductive.
