Abstract
AbstractThe development of alternative pest control methods offer a number of advantages over the conventional methods of pest control, under certain circumstances. These advantages will be discussed in the light of current social and economic pressures. In addition, the method of developing these alternative methods of pest control will be discussed in relation to the development of conventional methods of pest control. The so‐called area‐wide insect control schemes will be compared with farmer applied methods of insect control in relation to industry, training and economics.
