Abstract

The process of education plays a vital role in preparing an individual for the adjustment of life situations. In the modern life, with all its complexities and all its strains, many persons let their problems overwhelm them. Some people who fail to adjust to their surroundings try to obtain desirable goals through short cuts which may lead them into criminal activities. Still others, whose outward behavior never become serious enough to engage the attention of the courts or of the hospitals, nevertheless live thwarted, unhappy lives. If the condition of the people is this, then what about the people who are not socially adjusted, they will find it more difficult to adjust with the social circumstances.Social adjustment means changes in habitual conduct or behavior which an individual must make in order to fit into the community in which he lives (Warren, 1934). In Suresh (2007) it was found Demographic factors (like Gender, locality, type of management of colleges and salary) don't influencing social adjustment of teachers, in contrary Goel (1988) found that the male teachers had maximum problems related to social adjustment, than female teachers, likewise Hannum (2004) found attachment of female (mother) predicted better social adjustment but Sheikh (2001) found that uneducated males appear to be superior in social adjustment ability then educated ones. Reyonalds (2010) did an extensive study and reported socio-cultural adjustment experiences of self-initiating expertise contributed to the understanding. In addition, Black (1990) reported employees whosejob andnon-work expectations were met shows higher levels of social adjustment and job performance, than those whose expectations were either under or over met. Another research conducted by Saks (1995) found that initial self-efficacy moderates the relationship between training and social adjustment which is supported by Ostroff (1992) who investigated the relationship between employee satisfaction/ attitudes and organizational performance/ otherjob-related attitudes (commitment, adjustment, and psychological stress).Organizational status and prestige plays a substantial role in shaping constituents attitudes and actions. The status and prestige of an organization is often a reflection of its achievements or performance was studied by Carmeli, Gilat, and Waldman (2007). It was found the role of organizational performance or achievement (as assessed by organizational members) in evoking employee's identification, adjustment, andjob performance. Job performance as studied by Rothmann and Coetzer (2003) is a multi-dimensions concept which described how one completes a task, focusing on efficiency, skills, initiatives and utilized resources, whereas Vanderlinde (2005) described job performance as an action that involved process and product (final output). The individual process can be influenced by an organizations overall performance. It was not only actions that determined ones performance but also other factors as resources, organizational culture and economic, political and social factors.
