Abstract

In this article, we propose a theoretical model that generally describes the phenomenon of turnover contagion due to social activations of turnover intentions. We explore the possibilities of how two turnover events can be connected, with an emphasis on the psychological processes that occurs in the employee of the second event. To expand and create new theory, we use the metaphor of turnover as an actual disease and borrow concepts from epidemiology to describe how turnover could be transmitted from one individual to another. We discuss some of the factors that connect turnover events, providing examples and discussing avenues for future research. Hence, we present social activation of turnover intentions (SATI) theory.
