Abstract

In France, most of the people who are involved in sports associations as managers and coaches are volunteers. The general working hypothesis is that volunteers' motivations vary (although not radically) according to the different geographical areas. Distinct forms of sociabilities are emerging. The research shows that there is no overall contrast between the areas which have been studied. Nevertheless some trends are observed: Types of volunteers vary according to the geographical regions. Three kinds of sport sociabilities can be pointed out: sport sociabilities oriented towards the institutions (sports clubs); sport sociabilities oriented towards other people (sports participants); sport sociabilities oriented towards oneself.
