El artículo pretende dar respuesta a las siguientes preguntas: a) ¿El nombre del río Tiberis es latino o tiene origen etrusco? ¿Cómo lo llamaron los etruscos? Para averiguarlo, nos serviremos de los praen. lat. Tiberius, etr. Θihvaries, Θefarie, Θefri. b) ¿Dónde, cuándo y por qué recurrieron los griegos a Θύβρις, variante de Τίβερις, para denominar al río de Roma? c) ¿Es etrusco Thybris, el nombre del río Tiberis en la Eneida, y cuál es la etimología de este último, según Virgilio?
