Abstract

Following Mikhail Bakhtin’s notion of chronotope, the purpose of this essay is to depict a particular configuration of space-time in the Pierre/Andrei geminated image in War and Peace by Tolstoy and compare it to the geminated heroe Sancho/don Quixote in the great masterpiece by Cervantes. In Pierre and Andrei, and also in don Quixote and Sancho, the voice of the entire being , which largely exceeds human and individual condition, as well as the voice of the singular “ego”, so distant in its tragic thinking, are correlated and contrasted.
