Abstract
The importance of ECT in health care reform and in contemporary psychiatric nursing practice has yet to be recognized. To dispel the persistent misconceptions surrounding treatment, mental health educators must implement quality ECT training and nursing into their curriculum. Psychiatric nurses practicing ECT must promote positive attitudes about the treatment and provide educational opportunities for nursing students and continued education for practicing psychiatric nursing personnel.
