Abstract

This research explores the onomastic patterns of choice made by the editors of several thousand gay and lesbian newspapers, magazines, and other periodical publications issued between 1924 and 1992. Eleven categories of sources are identified and analyzed. Results indicate a highly varied background of both traditional and contemporary cultural, historical, and literary influences on the imagery of the gay and lesbian movement.
