Abstract

Aim: Apical remodeling is characterized by the presence of a divergent pattern of the left ventricle, ie. larger transverse diameter at the apex than at the base, and has been associated with a higher rate of cardiac death. It has been suggested that galectin-3 (gal-3) plays an important role in post-myocardial infarction (MI) remodeling. Human LGALS-3 is located in a 300 kb long haplotype block of Caucasians. In the only GWAS of circulating gal-3, rs2274273 has been most significantly associated with gal-3 levels. According to Tagger server, rs4040064, rs11628437 and rs7159490 cover 82% of the mentioned haplotype block phenotypic variance. Our study aimed to assess the relationship between these SNPs and different shape-types of cardiac remodeling 6 months after MI.
