Abstract

Diencephalic syndrome, or Russell syndrome, is characterized by extreme weight loss without subcutaneous adipose tissue associated with symptoms such as vomiting, hyperkinesia, euphoria, irritability, nystagmus, optic atrophy, and pallor without anemia. Although rare, diencephalic syndrome should be considered in children with developmental delay and preservation of linear growth. We present below a clinical case report of a child with Russell syndrome.
