Abstract

Background: Ganser Syndrome (GS) is a rare disease first described in 1897 by the neurologist Sigbert Ganser. It was originally characterized as a hysterical syndrome, but has remained controversial from its beginning to the present day.Aims: To describe a clinical case whose characteristics are compatible with GS and to make a brief review about this nosological entity. Methods: We collect and systematized the clinical information from a clinical case compatible with the diagnosis of GS. We carried out a nonsystematic review of the concept and associated clinical features. Results and Conclusions: GS is difficult to identify mostly due to the great uncertainty that persists in its characterization and standardization of the symptoms that compose it. A better definition of the disease is required within the concept of dissociative disorders, in order to facilitate its identification and differential diagnosis.
