Abstract

The Mediator complex controls RNA polymerase II transcription genome-wide. In humans, Mediator consists of 26 subunits; furthermore, a four-subunit "Mediator kinase module" can reversibly associate with the complex. Mediator structure is generally conserved from yeast to humans, although the human complex is larger, more structurally disordered, and contains metazoan-specific subunits.
