Abstract

Ganglion, usually found around the wrist, is a very common cystic tumor. Presentations typically range from painless masses around joints to irritation or discomfort due to direct pressure on surrounding soft tissues. To our knowledge, however, juxta-articular ganglion as a cause of snapping of the knee has not been described previously in the literature. A 50-year-old male presented with snapping of the right medial pes anserinus tendon. The condition had been present for over 2 years, but had recently increased in frequency. A sporting injury had been ruled out as a cause. A large cystic lesion, suggestive of a ganglion, was observed by radiology on the medial aspect of the distal femur. After surgical excision of the lump, the symptoms were resolved and the patient made a good recovery. A histology report confirmed the lesion to be a ganglion.
