Abstract
In inflorescence of Sitanion hystrix (Nutt.) J. G. Smith: 2285, June I6, 1915, near sand dunes between Garfield and Saltair, Salt Lake Co. The host was determined by Mrs. Agnes Chase. No smut has previously been reported on this host. The smut was sent to Dr. Clinton, who writes, under date of October 20, I915, am not sure whether the fungus represents a new species or not. It is close to Ustilago Lorentziana and U. brotmivora. I have placed it provisionally under U. Lorentziana (?), but am not quite satisfied with that disposition.
