Abstract

Moire and speckle pattern fringes are usually readily identifiable by eye: when the intensity of such a pattern is digitised and fed into a computer, it is by no means easy to identify the fringe positions because of the presence of optical noise in the fringe patterns. Three techniques for digital smoothing of such fringe patterns are discussed here.
