Abstract

The new borrowing smoothie/smoothy from English is considered in the article. The collected corpus of derivatives and spelling variants is about 200 units. The word smoothie/smoothy is fixed in English is 1977, in Russian the word was borrowed in the early 2000s in the thematic areas of "Healthy lifestyle", "Proper nutrition". The theoretical basis for a comprehensive study of this word and its derivatives is the theory of borrowing; the base lexeme can be attributed as a "Buzzword". The methods of English borrowing in the Russian graphic-spelling system are considered: transliteration (Rus. smussi , smusi ) and transcription (Rus. smuti , smutti ), analogies with earlier borrowings (such as pampers , snickers ) with the final on is (Rus. smutis , smufis , smusis ). The morphological adaptation of the neologism in Russian are in the forms of masculine, neuter, and feminine (in slang version of smuz ). An extensive family words is analyzed. The lexeme smoothie can be classified as multifunctional, since it can be used both as a noun and as an adjective. By adjectivation of the noun smoothie , the initial component of the smoothie was formed. Its numerous derivatives are listed and classified, actively included in marketing naming with other prefixes: bio... , eco... , organic... , participating in the formation of lexemes of the thematic group "Food, nutrition". Derivatives tend to develop polysemy. They move from the lexical periphery to the center of the lexical system and also penetrate into other sociolects. The leading semantic mechanisms are functional transfer, metonymy, and metaphor. Observations about the level of usage of the analyzed lexemes, the possibility of lexicographic fixation of some words, the nature and timing of usage are given in the article. Dictionary fixations of some lexemes are given in the table. The research methods are system-related, classification, statistical, structural-semantic analysis, word-formation, etymological, contextual.
