Abstract

Trends in tobacco consumption in the USSR between 1960 and 1980 are reviewed and the health consequences of smoking are examined with particular reference to mortality rates from coronary heart disease and lung cancer. Anti-smoking policies adopted by the Soviet government are also discussed. (ANNOTATION)
