Abstract

The World Health Organization (WHO) states that tuberculosis is the highest incidence of disease in the world and Indonesia is in second place out of five countries after India, followed by China, the Philippines and Pakistan. With the large number of TB sufferers based on presurvey data that most TB sufferers are in the Batu Aji Health Center, Batam City, in 2019 there were 60 TB sufferers and an increase in 2020 as many as 71 TB sufferers, the purpose of this study was to determine whether there was a relationship between smoking habits incident pulmonary tuberculosis (TB). This research is a descriptive analytic study with a cross sectional approach, the population of residents who come for treatment in the work area of the Batu Aji Public Health Center, the city of Batam, the sample uses a positive sampling technique with positive patients with pulmonary tuberculosis with a sample size of 38 respondents, using a questionnaire, statistical test chi-square test, With a confidence level of 95%, the results showed that the p value = 0.002 (<0.05) means that there is a significant relationship between smoking habits and the incidence of pulmonary tuberculosis (TB). In the work area of the Batu Aji Public Health Center, Batam City in 2020. Based on the results of this study, it is suggested that health workers, especially those who play a role in the DOTS program, can improve facilities and infrastructure in health services and increase information on the dangers of smoking and the dangers of TB disease, so that there is no increase in tuberculosis sufferers. lungs.
