Abstract

In the rehabilitation of established facial palsy, cross-facial nerve grafting followed by free-muscle transfer is the preferred method to restore facial balance and smile. At our institution we have used the serratus anterior muscle almost exclusively in these procedures. Advantages of this muscle include its ease of harvest, favorable muscular anatomy, consistent and lengthy neurovascular pedicle, and minimal donor site morbidity.
