Abstract

In renewable energy sources the contribution of wind energy is more and essential to meet the energy requirement in world. Before the development of power electronics switches the maintenance of power quality and grid code requirements are very difficult to mitigate power quality issues such as unbalanced voltages (sag and swell), LVRT, Frequency deviations and real power and reactive power maintenance(absorption and compensation). In recent year's development of power electronics switches, these issues are solving by implementation of different voltage restorer. This paper describes the principle of compensating voltage in power system network by series compensation in coordination with Dynamic Voltage Restorer (DVR) and Superconducting Magnetic Energy Storage (SMES) also analyse the response of Static synchronous series Compensator (SSSC) based on SMES by using simple PI controller. Normally series compensation is responsible to compensate power in unbalanced grid lines. There are many types of series compensation devices such as voltage restorer, SSSC and TCSC etc. These two series compensation methods are protects consumer loads from grid voltage fluctuations. This work is suitable for variable speed grid connected wind energy conversion system. The improvement of response time, reduction of controller complexity and voltage sag mitigation and LVRT improvement have been simulated and analysed by MATLAB-Simulink.
