Abstract
Tremendous amount of waste is being produced with a rapid increase in population. The current world addresses loads of difficulties that include smart waste disposal systems. Collection, segregation, and disposal of waste are a chaotic process. It has become a matter of huge concern if the correct disposal system isn’t managed. Managing waste effectively and usage expeditiously can take the nation one leap forward. Dumping waste, landfills, burning waste will cause environmental pollution. Hence, proper waste management is the need of the hour for the ecologically sustainable development of many countries. The generated waste gets economic value only if it is segregated in an efficient manner. In this work, a smart waste disposal system is developed which will classify the wastes in numerous categories to form waste management easier and economical. The waste is sorted into wet, metals, and nonmetal wastes. The wet waste which includes biodegradable organic waste can be used to form compost, whereas the dry wastes like metals can be recycled and the rest can be disposed off. The paper proposes an easy way to detect and segregate waste into wet, metallic, and nonmetallic for domestic purposes. The prototype has been designed to sort the waste into wet, metallic and nonmetallic wastes. It comprises of two subassemblies, namely Bluetooth-controlled vehicle, to make movements of the device and a waste sorting subassembly to sort the waste into its respective bins. The waste has to be sorted into various types, and each of these types such as wet waste, metals, plastic has to be handled separately at the disposal area or land. Therefore, providing separate bins for each of the different types of wastes and sorting them in the initial stages reduces a large amount of work in handling the waste. The whole setup carries out the function of detecting the presence of waste and passing them through a series of sensors through a conveyor to decide the type of waste and then finally dumping it into its respective bin. The device is also made movable using a Bluetooth module to make necessary movements.
