Abstract

A smart vehicle tracking system with collision avoidance is designed and implemented to track the movement of any vehicle at any time from any location and to avoid collision in crowded places. The proposed system used a popular technology that combines Raspberry pi with Web Application. Implementation of this system is easy and inexpensive compared to others. This smart system used global positioning system (GPS) and Global system for mobile communication for vehicle tracking. The device is placed in a vehicle whose position is to be determined/tracked. Microcontroller is used to control the GPS and GSM modules. This tracking system uses GPS module to obtain longitude and latitude coordinates of the desired vehicle at regular intervals of time. To transmit and update the location of vehicle into a database GSM Module is used. API Key is used to display the vehicle on the map in the web application. Thus, by using this web application one can continuously monitor the movement of vehicle. Here an ultrasonic sensor is used, if it detects the presence of any vehicle nearby, it immediately sends an alert message to the driver so that he can avoid the collision by taking diversion. This paper presents the experimental results of smart vehicle tracking system in order to show its effectiveness.
