Abstract

Following a broad overview of the literature, research articles and extensive studies on topics such as new organizational forms, future trends in the chosen representative market, new enabling technologies and the demands of a modern business environment, a concept for the producers of custom tools, machines and special equipment was formed. The concept is based on the hypothesis that it is possible to create added value for the customer through an innovative business model using specific modern organizational and technological approaches. The objective of the research presented here was to first validate and test the basic characteristics of the concept in the eyes of buyers of such custom products. Based on these findings the second research instrument was constructed, targeting producers of custom tools, machines and special equipment. Major trends were validated, priorities and perceived added value in the eyes of the buyers were tested, and the importance of communication and cooperation with stakeholders, as well as use of modern ICT and organizational flexibility in the field was studied.
