Abstract

Internet of things (IoT) initiates revolution in many different industry areas by enabling integrated data analysis and process automation. Connectivity for local or wide area is fundamental to collect sensed data or to send control information to from IoT field devices. Smart phones providing a tethering function can play a role of the gateway for personal IoT environment, which does not require additional subscription for personal IoT devices and provides location independent connectivity. The smart phone based IoT environment is very efficient for personal service since information from personal devices is meaningful only for the person and does not require infrastructure. In this paper, we propose smart phone based personal IoT architecture and show personal vehicle and home automation examples as case studies.
