Abstract

This paper describes the smart grid operation strategies based on nuclear load following to improve the power system reliability in order to prepare preparations for the increasing use of renewable resources and real-time demand response. Load following operation in a nuclear power plant is a method of regulating the power supply and keeping the demand stable in the allowed range of nuclear power generation to relieve the effects of power interconnections for generation sources with renewable generations or very large variations of generation output in the case of power interconnection. In this simulation, we performed an inter-area power flow simulation for the variation of the power generation/load using the Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) 2020 power system planning data in South Korea. We used the PSS/E 32 version tool for the inter-area flow simulation.
