Abstract
The world faces energy dilemma: excessive use of fossil fuels leads to increasing pressure on resources, environment and climate change, while reducing energy demands is impossible for maintaining and improving the quality of life. This dilemma could be alleviated from two aspects. One is to meet the energy demands as well as lower energy supply through smart energy management. The other is to develop carbon-free clean energy, in particular nuclear energy, to replace fossil fuels. Through smart energy management, the energy demands could be met by grade match, to meet the energy demands with the same grade energy resources. Some special types of reactors can be put into comprehensive utilization for above purposes. By coupling the gas turbine Modular High Temperature Gas-cooled Reactor (MHTGR) with the seawater desalination, the nuclear energy would be used as much as possible while the effectiveness of energy be promoted.Copyright © 2012 by ASME
