Abstract

In article number 2002787, Yugang Wang, Wei Wei, Guanghui Ma, and co-workers develop an exosome-based platform for smart drug delivery and personalized antitumor therapy. They discover that the exosomes released from low-pH treated tumor cells have the strong uptake efficiency and targeting ability for their parent cells. Such “magical” characteristics are based on a glycerolipid selfaggregation-enhanced uptake mechanism. These reprogrammed exosomes are further utilized as smart carriers for dual-loading of photosensitizer and chemodrug, which are capable of specifically accumulating in tumor tissue, selectively releasing chemodrug in response to the near-infrared irradiance and achieving safe and potent antitumor effects.
