Abstract

Fierce market competition drives rapid evolution of electric vehicles through efficient and effective design adaptation for better meeting market preferences. The design adaptations may require modifications of specifications and design parameters, such significant specification changes can consequently affect reliability, safety, maintainability, and life-cycle performance of electric vehicles. Due to complex relationship among specifications and parameters of electric vehicle, impacts caused by design adaptations must be carefully evaluated and reduced. Big sales data of electric vehicles, which include combinations of multi-dimensional specifications and parameters, are a valuable resource for reducing the undesired impact of design adaptation through the analysis of the complex relationships amongst specifications and parameters. In order to maximize the reuse of existing design and minimize the negative impacts of design adaptation, a smart decision-making approach is proposed for the design adaptation of an electric vehicle.
