Abstract

We present IoT (Internet of Things) node authentication and key management using Digital Ledger Technologies (DLTs) for mobile IoT nodes that may leave, or enter, a smart city environment. Legacy smart city models have fixed location IoT nodes around the smart city, sensing and transmitting data to a centralized platform. These legacy platforms do not account for mobile IoT nodes that may roam within, into, or out of, smart city environments. Our analysis shows that IoT node authentication and key management, via DLTs, provides a resilient, secure, anonymous and distributed approach to smart city services for mobile IoT nodes.
