Abstract

The National Smart Cities Mission was launched by Government of India in 2015 which is a redevelopment program with the aim to develop smart cities across the country and make them sustainable. This study examines how the Smart Cities Mission was implemented by The Union Ministry of Urban Development while collaborating with the state governments. It explores about the budget of the Mission, the engagement of the mission in different cities, the sustainability measures integrated and the future of the mission. It analyses the challenges faced, technological integrations involved and the funding models of the mission. Moreover, the research focuses on the comparison of the smart cities mission in different cities, how different states have worked on it and what has been the perception of the public. Furthermore, looking ahead to developing technology, the mission's lessons learned, and the dynamic nature of urbanization, the research also takes into account future viewpoints.
