Abstract
Smart city is often considered the most important internet of things (IoT) applications. Smart city technologies stimulate cloud-based and IoT-based services that use smartphones, sensors, RFIDs, etc., for enhancement of city’s efficiency, reliability, and security. So, integrating networking and knowledge technology with the IoT and machine learning (ML) strategies is required to foster the growing global approaches. Implementation of smart applications will be achieved through information and communication technology (ICT), which may cause increased efficiency, interconnection, and performance of various urban services. It urges the necessity for cloud computing and IoT technologies, and both have a big impact on how we build and deploy smart applications for them. This chapter describes the convergence of ML and IoT for smart cities, and also discusses the usage scenarios of smart cities along with challenges towards urbanization.
