Abstract

This paper aims to evaluate the influence of charging strategies of plug-in electric vehicles on the loss of life of a 600 kVA HV/MV power transformer. Several charging strategies were defined and applied in the daily operation of a power system with a vehicle fleet of 150 plug-in hybrid electric vehicles by means of a Monte Carlo simulation. To evaluate the results, the relative aging of the power transformer was calculated using the IEEE aging and exponential thermal models. The simulation results show the effect of each charging strategy on aggregated demand profile and its impact on the power transformer. Finally, energy costs were calculated in the scenarios where time-of-use tariffs were considered.
