Abstract
Amongst the critical factors of Lithium-ion batteries (LIBs), their safety and continuous performance play a crucial role. To ensure and control these factors, in-situ monitoring of internal cell parameters, such as temperature, state-of-charge, and state-of-health of LIBs is essential. Here, the integration of sensors into battery cells, allowing direct monitoring of internal parameters during operation, makes a significant contribution. In this work, the integration of two different types of sensors into LIBs is presented. In a first attempt, different types of temperature sensors are integrated into the cell, to measure the internal temperature. Secondly, the incorporation of reference electrodes, allowing direct and independent detection of the electrode potentials during operation, will be presented.
