Abstract

This paper presents a new design of a MEMS based impedance biosensor for simultaneous detection of multiple waterborne pathogens in tap water Figure 1. The testing panel includes Legionella, E. coli O157: H7 and Salmonella. The device is unique in terms of its ability to focus, concentrate a low amount of pathogens to a detectable level, and detect them using interdigitated electrode (IDE) arrays coated with specific antibody to enable detection of pathogens with high selectivity and sensitivity at a concentration as low as 3 cells/ml in 1 hour.
