Abstract

In this contribution I review recent progress in understanding saturation in high energy scattering in N = 4 super Yang-Mills theory at strong coupling.1) One of the motivations to study the N = 4 theory may come from the fact that there exist longstanding problems in the corresponding process in QCD for which perturbative methods do not apply. These include the issue of Froissart’s bound and the relation between the soft and hard Pomerons. Although we are still far away from really addressing these problems in QCD, N = 4 super Yang-Mills theory, with the help of the AdS/CFT correspondence, may give us a hint of how the nature of scattering changes as the coupling becomes strong. In order to put the presentation in a more general context, I discuss high energy scattering in three theories; (1) Regge theory, (2) QCD and (3) N = 4 SYM, and emphasize the common structure in the representation of scattering amplitudes as well as differences in the high energy behavior.
