Abstract

It is widely recognised that small firms greatly predominate over large firms around the world, both in number and the share of the labour force they employ. This is particularly true for developing regions, where the industrial structure is characterised both by the share of small firms in the formal economy and the high proportion of self-employed workers and micro- and small firms in the informal economy.
