Abstract

Experimental study is conducted in a 25-mm-bore ram accelerator at mixture Ž ll pressures of 2.5 and 3.5MPa. The obturator motion is analyticallymodeled to understand the effects of perforation ratio and entrance velocity on the drag coefŽ cient and the mixture ignition delay time. The ram acceleration is achieved at both pressures. At 2.5 MPa the starting and operation characteristics are marginal, whereas increasing the pressure to 3.5 MPa results in better starting reliability and ram acceleration characteristics.
