Abstract
A magnitude 2.7 earthquake shook part of central Missouri at about 6:25 A.M. local time on 5 May. The event, which caused no reported damage, follows an 18 April magnitude 5.2 earthquake whose epicenter was in Illinois near the border of Indiana. That earlier quake, classified as moderate by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), occurred in the Wabash Valley seismic zone and was the strongest earthquake in southern Illinois since 1968.
