Abstract
Some sets of generators of unitary groups on a nonsingular Hermitian space with hyperbolic rank at least one over a finite field of characteristic not 2 with an involution ∗ are studied. All unitary groups are shown to be generated by 3 elements and all symplectic groups are generated by 2 elements.
