Abstract

Results of small punch tests on miniaturized thin discs of P91 steel are compared with relevant conventional tests on bulk specimens. Small punch tests under constant displacement rate were performed at room temperature and 873 K. The results were correlated with results of conventional stress–strain tests. Results of small punch tests under constant force were compared with results of conventional creep tests at temperatures of 823, 848 and 873 K. It is shown that there are simple empirical relationships between the parameters determined from small punch and conventional tests. Some problems in the method for performing small punch tests are also presented and discussed.
