Abstract

Space to store and time to retrieve objects in object relational databases (ORDBs) are the primary factors database designers and administrators are concerned with. The ontology of ORDB lists several storage units and most of them are represented as objects in relational data model for which reason ORDB is considered as complex. In this piece of work we have discussed on the conceptual storage of objects and the optimization of time in the retrieval of stored objects. Functional ORDB metrics were also found to contribute to the behavior of objects. Few experiments were conducted on sample ORDB schema and the results show significant improvement in the performance on ORDB. The work is further extended in stating open unsolved problems in this area of database research.
