Abstract
The difference in response to wave phenomena of small craft and large ships created many unexpected problems in the design of small-craft harbors. Great progress has been made in the science of oceanography in the 1950's, and many design techniques for small craft harbors are now (1964) being formulated. Some of the problems experienced by the Corps of Engineers, and methods used to overcome them, are examined. Principal harbors investigated are Marina del Rey, Calif., Redondo Beach-King Harbor, Calif., Halfmoon Bay Harbor, Calif., Scarboro Harbor, Me., and two harbors in the Great Lakes.
