Abstract

We report the specific heat C ( T ) of filled skutterudites SmOs 4 Sb 12 and LaOs 4 Sb 12 . The lattice specific heat of LaOs 4 Sb 12 has a contribution from characteristic low-energy phonon modes centered around ∼ 60 K . For SmOs 4 Sb 12 , considering the influence of a significant shift of the phonon modes toward low energy, we estimated the true electronic contribution in specific heat Δ C el . The obtained Δ C el / T in SmOs 4 Sb 12 steeply increases below 20 K without indicating a Schottky anomaly.
