Abstract

Abstract This study investigates the effects of hydrodynamic cavitation(HC) on sludge solubilization using an advanced rotation hydrodynamic cavitation reactor(ARHCR), varying rotation speeds of rotor. The effectiveness was analysed by measuring biogas yield during anaerobic digestion(AD). The results show that AD performance with treated sludge was improved by HC, indicating that sludge was effectively solubilized. However, the much higher temperature formed by HC leads to the formation of refractory materials that lower AD performance. Overall, this study suggests that HC can be a promising technique to improve sludge solubilization, however, the issue of refractory materials needs to be addressed for optimal performance.
