Abstract
We present a rigid study of oscillatory modes propagation in a dielectric cylindrical waveguide with anisotropic metamaterial cladding. Through complete analysis of all the possible modes for different cladding metamaterials, we demonstrate that slow or even frozen waves can be supported in such a dielectric waveguide with special parameters of the metamaterial. We also propose a practical realization of the dielectric waveguide, in which the metamaterial consists of silver-silicon dioxide multilayer thin-films. We show that the slow or even frozen waves can still be supported in such practical structure.
