Abstract
Starting from the general formula of Haber et al. (1973) for the drag force arising when two drops are approaching each other along their line of centers in an unbounded liquid, asymptotic expressions for great and small separations are derived. In the former case a generalization of the well-known formulae of Rybczynski (1911), Hadamard (1911) and Lorentz (1907) is obtained. In the latter, new approximate formulae, valid for great and small drop viscosity are derived. The approach of a liquid drop toward a solid plane boundary is considered as well.
