Abstract

Slovakia’s political landscape shifted significantly with the return to power in October 2023 of former prime minister Robert Fico and his party Smer. Fico’s anti-Ukraine stance, reliance on nationalist sentiments and potential alignment with Hungary’s Viktor Orbán in European Union policymaking have raised concerns in EU member-state capitals about the country’s foreign policy.
