Abstract

Numerically and experimentally, the authors investigate the dynamic behavior of liquid free surface in vertical vibrated prism containers with elemental cross sections, namely, 5 : 8-rectangular, square and triangular ones. The Laplace's equation is solved by a discrete singularity method, in order to simulate three dimensional non-simple-boundary problems with surface tension, and we confirmed its effectivity in comparison with experiments. In finite-amplitude region, we find four anomalous sloshing modes, which cannot be observed in linear approximations. Besides, we find three modes in a triangular container.
