Abstract

The deterioration in highest side lobe level (HSLL) due to quantized control of phase shifters in analog phased arrays is investigated. The finite resolution limits the HSLL that can be achieved. An algorithm based on ordered binary decision diagram (OBDD) is proposed to compensate for HSLL deterioration which is found to be suitable for moderately sized arrays. The proposed algorithm provides maximum improvement of about 8 to 10 dB, depending upon the ideal value of HSLL, scan direction and the number of antennas.
